Black Eyed Kids: a PSA

one of the creepier things i've come across lately during my internet travels is the urban myth of black eyed kids (or BEKs): they knock on your door or approach you in your parked car, asking to use your phone or for a ride somewhere. they come on softly but get more agitated and forceful  if you don't acquiesce. their breath apparently stinks to high heaven.

the only stories of them are the one told by those who get creeped out enough to not let them in - locking the door behind themselves. begging the question: what happens when you let them in?

angels wearing gasmasks

these were a bunch of sketches that i did 2 summers ago that i thought, at the time, were kinda zeitgeisty.(i was actually trying to do something a little provocative since, i've long laid to rest any teenage repulsion i my have been engendered with against being 'pretentious'. i mean, christ, why not not attempt something of merit or significance if you got the time? and i was unemployed at the time ... so what the frick!

anyhoo - looking back at the juxtaposition of the charcoal rendering of the mad scientist archetype(character) with the ink sketch of the gas-mask-angel in the bottom drawing, is bringing to mind a lot of the ancient astronaut/extraterrestrial crptohistorical/fortean esoterica that i've been allowing access to my cerebral cortex lately. as is the general idea of 'angel/alien operatives' needing technological assistance to operate successfully 'down here'.

the scientist representing 'us' rendered in what is basically a burnt stick and the angel in a gas mask representing 'them'* rendered with a highly advanced mechanism utilizing ball-bearing, vacuum creating and plastic manufacturing techniques, this, representation of the differences in technological capacity of the two groups.

the scientist also seems to have a righteous anger burning in the general direction though, not directly at the gma, while the angel has literally glassy eyed gaze encompassing not only the raging scientist but, conceivably everything in that general direction. again representative of the differences between the to groups. this time in the awareness they have of each other.

totally unintentional(and or subconscious). i may not have even drawn the two sketches on the same page at the same time. just filling in a blank spot on the page for the sake of no longer having a blank spot on the page.

but in a world where, as i believe, one gets lied to from birth till death about where and who we are, could any real insights occur if not by accident?

stay tuned folks; we're thru the looking glass now.

like we've ever been anywhere else.

if you're a unfamiliar with ancient astronaut/extraterrestrial crptohistorical/fortean esoterica here's a couple of links from different ends of the spectrum you might find interesting and or highly offensive.

revisionist bible interpretation

ancient astronaut with a good dash of bigfoot

*still not sure if there is a 'them' or that if it's even possible to be separate from anything in the universe in a manner that would actually constitute a 'them' or 'other' type entity.

the concept existing solely for the benefit of them that might profit from the waging of one group against a fabricated 'other'.

STAN MIKITA:update

i'm glad i scanned this earlier stage of this sketch, looking back, i think i may have lost a little something when i went over it one last time with the purple prismacolor.

here are seven links to seven things directly or indirectly linked to the invasion of iraq by a coalition of international war criminals commonly referred to as willing.

KCLAAaannAANG!!!

In this early post war (mock)photo(for use in a pitch package I put together recently) we see Boom Boom Jeffries wielding the mystical hammer Mjolnir after having wrested it from the mighty Thor himself at the height of WW11. Thor, of course, fighting for Nazi occupied Norway at the time. And we see young Billy Miller holding up Admiral America's invincible shield of Ultimate Virtue as the Admiral keeps a watchful eye.

Good times.

series development collage

the great thing about working on developing an animation series, especially in the early stages, is the shear amount of drawings you have to go through trying to come up with characters and 'styles' of animation. as for style in this case, i got the feeling early on, that the client, though wanting something cartoony, didn't want anything that was, y'know, 'too cartoony'. and it was just a matter of finding out what each of us thought the other meant by 'cartoony' and 'too cartoony'

these are selections from the ever expanding research and reject file...

Real Canadian Superheroes! For Real!

These are a series of trading cards issued along with series of postage stamps that came out in 1992 or 93.

I modified two of them somewhat so as not to arouse any copyright houndings and include them in series proposal I put together late last year.

Two other ones are complete fabrications based on characters in the series.

Three of them are untouched and are shown as they were issued with a little worse for wearage along the edges.

Can you guess which one are which, kids? I knew you could.

I'm not saying I did such a great job with the photoshopping and the fakings but the and vague status of most Canadian superheroes makes it a pretty easy task for one up to such enterprise.

Johnny Kanuckehead is a personal favorite.

These are the stamps themselves: Issued to commemorate Superman's birthday and the discovery that he's apparently half Canadian. I thought he was half Jewish myself. But what do I know?

I'm pretty sure it was his left side that was Canadian. The side that that Neofacsist Batman always hated. Or was Superman the Neofacsist? Labels. So hard to keep track of who's what and what's what mean.

But I digress.

One these stamps is a fake also. It's pretty easy to spot; it's the one you can't read at this size.
